DESCRIPTION
The Marlin® 336W Lever-Action Rifle is ideal for hunting deer, hogs, or black bear at close to medium range, or for defending yourself against potential threats in the backcountry. The 336W has a blued steel barrel and receiver and a pistol-grip, hardwood stock. The 20″ barrel has Micro-Groove rifling to deliver optimum accuracy with jacketed hunting bullets. The full-length magazine tube holds 6 rounds of .30-30 Win. cartridges, which are loaded through a loading port on the side of the receiver. The receiver utilizes side ejection, which simplifies scope mounting, and the gun comes drilled and tapped for attaching a scope mount. The Marlin 336W features a semi-buckhorn, folding rear sight and a brass bead front sight, protected by a Wide-scan hood. A receiver-mounted cross-bolt safety effectively blocks the hammer from hitting the firing pin. Sling swivel studs with loops allow for the attachment of a rifle sling for convenient hands-free carry in the field. The Marlin 336W is a traditional lever-action rifle that’s quick handling, and delivers rapid fire with a proven big game hunting cartridge. Made in USA.
The Model 336 family are icons of the deer woods. Each rifle features Micro-Groove rifling, ensuring that tags will be filled, mouths fed and the reign of America’s ultimate woods rifle will continue going strong. You’ll be proud to join generations of Marlin owners who have carried on the deer hunting tradition, by carrying a classic Marlin lever-action. This hunting machine is chambered for 30-30 Win. and features a 20” Micro-Groove barrel with adjustable rear sight and ramp with hood front sight. Plus, its receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. The hardwood stock and fore-end have cut checkering.
The offset hammer spur is provided along with a mounting wrench to ensure the best hammer control possible when an optic is mounted on a lever action receiver as there may not be enough space between the optic and the hammer to adequately place a thumb on and control the hammer. The offset hammer spur can be mounted on either side of the hammer for left or right-handed shooters.

I was looking for a new or used lever gun in .30-30. My dad and uncle both hunt the PA woods with the Marlin 336, so when I saw this come up on special, I jumped at it. Upon arrival, the front sight was loose, as many folks have mentioned on internet reviews, but I plan on installing peep sights, so I wasn’t too concerned. The action was smooth… at first. When I ran the action slow, I could feel it drag. Metal on metal. Over the next few days, I read the manual and planned a cleaning and initial day at the range. But the action continued to worsen. Eventually, it would jam up every time unless I really worked the lever around. The feed ramp was sticking. I emailed Marlin/Remington, they set me up for UPS shipping for warranty repair, and in about a weeks turnaround time, it was returned with an action that is nice and smooth. I’ve yet to get it out to the range, but I figured my initial experience might be helpful to someone. I am happy that Remington was responsive and made it right without too much hassle. In general, I like the gun, the big loop, fit and finish is adequate for what it is, and the green with black splatter paint is pretty cool, in my opinion.
